ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Jefferson County is one of 64 counties in Colorado, and is home to over 550,000 people. Once an agricultural and mining mecca, Jefferson County is home to a variety of businesses from mom and pop shops to Fortune 500 employers. Well-known companies with headquarters in Jefferson County include Molson Coors Brewing, Chipotle Mexican Grill and WhiteWave Foods.
Jefferson County claims numerous resources to promote the economic health of the county, while respecting cultural heritage and preserving environmental resources.
To help sustain the economic viability of Evergreen, the Downtown Evergreen Economic District (DEED) was developed to play the role of what an incorporated town government would do to make the town safer and more enjoyable. Recent projects by the organization include completing a ‘Master Plan’ (Evergreen Final Dec 2015) for the greater Downtown Evergreen Area, and completing an elevated path to unite two of the mountain area’s best features, Historic Downtown Evergreen with Evergreen Lake Park.
To help fund these and future endeavors, DEED created the Evergreen Legacy Fund (ELF). You may notice the ‘Elf’ logo in windows of area merchants. These merchants voluntarily participate in a program to fund ELF, and charge a 1% voluntary contribution, not a tax, to shoppers. Patrons may decline to participate by asking their vendor.
